canada day - 8 degrees fog threat of rain
missed buying food at the dominions spent too much time in st. john's before heading out to pouch. looking for jim, i headed to his place then down to wordplay then back to his place then back to djangos then gathering my wits headed over to the duke with the globe and bought a pint of smithwicks from roz and read the paper.

passed sue and mumbled that she could never play darts she came over said that she had been warned that i was on my way back. it was then that i saw the regulars sitting about the bar.

jim's still not home walked over to st. pat's to take in the last inning of the game between shamrocks and the guards. pretty thrilling as the bases were loaded with one out and the guards leading 1 x 0 when the guards' pitcher struck out the final two batters. climbed the hill saw the volvo and headed over tripping over a gigantic tim hortons coffee can.

an hour or two of catching up and it was past 10pm. they were locking the door of the dominions when i pulled up.

in the end it is fitting that i return to pouch at night. it makes the landmarks more important -the rise and the curve in torbay, the irving's gas bar in the valley the lit irving's sign just outside flatrock that serves as the motorist's light house. the iconic irving's sign. the fog had set in. the road seemed as long as ever after flatrock kept looking for the rise into pouch that never seemed to come. it was 10:15 bruce's closes at 11. here came the straight away where the taxi driver the first night i was here said he used to race cars, the lake just south of shoe cove, the road to the satellite lounge, then finally the closed pouch cove pharmacy the curve and in the mist, the village laid out in front of me. the crappy road out front of the bark park, the post office, the dim light and the cars out front of bruce's - reassured. nature called. up to number 14 then racing back to bruce's for milk, bread and heinz tomato soup where one of the locals sees me and says "so you're back again?"
